Open Position: Professor in « Heritage Management »

THE POSITION

The colleague will be responsible for the teaching of the Master’s degree in “Heritage Management”
offered in partnership between the Université Française d’Egypte and Unviersité Paris 1 PanthéonSorbonne. The position will be located in Cairo, within the premises of the UFE.
The recruited Professeor is a specialist in tangible and intangible heritage.
Having a profile in Human and Social Sciences (geography, economics, sociology, anthropology,
ethnology…) he/she has a thorough knowledge of the social, economic and cultural stakes of heritage
in general and in the regional context (Egypt, North Africa, Middle East) in particular. He/she has
experience in teaching, research and academic program management.

Teaching

The teaching service will focus primarily, but not exclusively, on courses given within the framework
of the Master’s degree in Heritage Management. The courses are given in English, and deal with cultural
heritage, cultural sites and museums, and tourism, from the point of view (depending on the courses
given) of the issues of safeguarding, enhancement, mediation, tourism, project management. They
address heritage as a resource for the development and growth of local communities.

Research

We are looking for a researcher in the field of heritage, with a capacity for interdisciplinarity in the
fields of heritage. His/her publications and work will play an important role in the scientific influence
of the UFE. He/she will supervise the research projects of UFE students. He/she will provide seminars
on research methodology in order to accompany students of the Master’s degree in Heritage
Management who wish to continue their doctoral studies in Egypt, France or elsewhere. He/she will
accompany the setting up of a research center on heritage and tourism within UFE, intended to
welcome master students, doctoral students and other researchers.

Administrative coordination

He/she will coordinate, for UFE, in collaboration with the coordinator appointed by IREST, the Master’s
degree in Heritage Management. He/she will coordinate the recruitment of teachers and institutional
and professional lecturers for the courses taught by the Egyptian side. He/she will ensure the
administrative and institutional relations with IREST and with UFE’s partners for the Master (IFAO,
Egyptian Commission for UNESCO, etc.).

He/she will be the reference for the communication operations related to the Master “Heritage
Management”. He/she will rely on UFE’s resources and administrative staff for these tasks.
Fluency in French and/or English is essential. Fluency in Arabic is necessary.
The position is on our main campus in Shorouk, in Greater Cairo. The Shorouk city is well located at
20 mn from the New Capital and New Cairo, 30 mn from international Cairo airport and only 90mn
from the Red Sea.
