Program of Architecture

Baccalaureos of Architecture

Partner university, National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) of Strasbourg

Type de partnership :

Issue of the Partner diploma Particpation of INSA to teaching

The Baccalaureos of Architecture prepares to the architect carreer. Our future architects are able to meet the needs of the international market in general and the Egyptian one in particular, especially in the field of sustainable development. The program provides employment for students through internships taken during the years of study. The majority of them are hired by the companies where they did their internships or in other French companies or agencies established in Egypt, such as Total, Lafarge and Vinci.

Objectives of the program

  • Provide students with a level of training in accordance with the European standard for architectural training.
  • Ensure student mobility in France in order to allow everyone to build their dual Franco-Egyptian culture, which is a pillar of the program.
  • Provide practical training in line with the needs of the labor market throughout the years of study.
  • Priority is given to research, particularly in promoting the use of natural and sustainable materials, in accordance with the program’s vision for sustainable development.

Teaching Methodology

1

The program takes place over five years, including a preparatory year. It implies validation by the student of all teaching modules and obtaining a minimum score of 785 points in the “TOEIC” test in English.

2

Students must complete a minimum of 3 months of experience abroad, in the form of student mobility and summer internships. This translates into a semester spent in the fourth year at INSA of Strasbourg plus internships, in sites and offices, accomplished over scholar years.

3

During the fourth year, students are required to carry out research and write a dissertation on a theme related to architecture and urbanisme. This work widens their field of knowledge. It adds to their culture professionally as well as acadimacally, especially for those who opt for an academic career.

Internships and
projects

It’s mandatory for Students to complete summer internships with a required total of 20 weeks during their five years of study, including 6 weeks on site.

An End of Studies Project (PFE) is done during the fifth year, with 5 stages of rendering followed by a month of ” charrettes “, during which students of all classes form mini-architectural agencies in order to help graduates to present his project. This system of “carts” is considered to be an effective device for co-training.

Admission requirements

Education is bilingual either in French or in English. Students must master both languages at the end of their studies. To integrate UFE, students must demonstrate a minimum level either in English or French equivalent to B1 level. A mandatory pre-semester is organized before courses start.

Application evaluation with grades, a recommendation letter of the High School and a video presenting a personal statement (Who Am I, What do I like, Whom do I want to become,…)

At the end of the first year Admission is based on a competitive examination at the Baccalaureate +1 level at the end of a scientific preparatory year of the Higher Mathematics type. The competition is made up of:

  • 4 written tests, identical subjects and at the same time as at INSA of Strasbourg.
  • 2 oral tests, provided in Cairoby a team from UFE and INSA of Strasbourg.

Admitted students are then enrolled in both institutions and move on to the second year.

Admission process

The admission period open on April 25th till June 30th. Future students must apply both on the website of the MOSHER and on UFE website. Once the admission fee is paid, the procedure is fully online : interview, documents deposit and language evaluation.

International mobility

A mobility semester during the fourth year at INSA of Strasbourg, France.

Appearance Training and Research

The architecture program pays primary attention to research. To this end, a laboratory entitled “Terre-Pierre” was created during the 2017-2018 academic year in order to orient research towards these natural and sustainable materials, in accordance with the vision of the program and of the UFE in favor of sustainable development.

Formed by a team of professors from the UFE and INSA, this experimental research laboratory combines traditional manufacturing and implementation with the most advanced techniques in architecture.

Since the inauguration of Terre-Pierre, study trips organized each year by the architecture program have aligned with the laboratory’s research objectives for the use of natural building materials.
