The Université Sorbonne Nouvelle was founded in 1970. Located on the new Nation campus, designed by the architect Christian de Portzamparc, the university provides high-level training in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences: Languages, Humanities, Arts and Contemporary Societies.
It has more than 16,000 students (a third of whom are foreign students), more than 700 professors and 900 lecturers, 5 doctoral schools and 28 research units.

The University of Haute-Alsace (UHA) was created in 1975. Born of industrial and scientific needs, the UHA is a multidisciplinary university with a strong professional focus that has made its cross-border environment with Switzerland and Germany a major asset. It places innovation at the heart of its priorities, thus meeting the requirements of the professional and institutional world.
The UHA has 11,000 students who follow nearly 200 courses, taught in 4 faculties, 2 university institutes of technology (IUT) and 2 engineering schools in the two cities of Mulhouse and Colmar. It includes some 15 research laboratories and branches, and is recognized for the strength of its research carried out in direct collaboration with companies. It also offers apprenticeships and continuing education (lifelong learning).

The INSA is a large higher school of architects and engineers, placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the school receives 1,700 students in its premises. It trains engineers over five years in seven specialties, ranging from mechanics, to civil engineering, including plastics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, climate and energy engineering and topography, as well as architects. Three specialties are available on a work-study program. The school joined the INSA group, which gather six national institutes of applied sciences. It also belongs to the Alsace Tech network that brings together the twelve major engineering, architecture and management schools of Alsace.

Founded in 1970, the University of Nantes is part of Nantes University. Convinced of the need to join forces to better meet the challenges of the contemporary world, public institutions of higher education and research in Nantes have joined forces to create a new institution: Nantes University. This grouping came into being in January 2022.
Nantes University has entered and consolidated its position in numerous rankings (Times Higher Education – THE, Reuters, Leiden Ranking, etc.). The institution is now positioned among the best European and global institutions on indicators related to the evaluation of research and innovation (share of the most cited publications in the world, number of patents with industry, etc.).
