The French University of Egypt (UFE) will change in size without losing its values of proximity to its students. Its campus will be expanded next to the existing one to accommodate a growing number of students, according to the highest real estate and equipment standards in the university world.
The objective is to welcome 3,000 students by 2030, with a possibility of extension to 7,000 in a second phase, in a campus organized around the various departments of UFE. The extension of the campus will allow to pursue and accelerate the development of the University, and in particular to welcome more Egyptian students, African students, to facilitate the mobility of students from French university partners, and to develop new programs within new faculties.
This expansion, which will increase the current size of the campus by almost tenfold, is designed architecturally as an oasis. On approximately 30,000 m2 will be built the teaching premises, school life, catering, sports facilities, accommodation, administration and research departments. These buildings will be integrated into an outdoor space that is more than 50% larger than the building, covering an area of 46,000 m2. It will be composed of green spaces, outdoor sports facilities (soccer fields, handball courts, basketball courts and swimming pool), parking lots and roads.
This new place of learning will be in a refreshingly shady, naturally ventilated setting, protected by a large sun-breaking roof, with the buildings surrounded by plenty of green space. The environment will be inspiring, friendly and efficient for the students, for the teachers and for all the partners who cooperate with UFE. Part of it will also be open to the neighborhood and the city.
The iconic building selected after an international architectural competition is sleek and refined, respectful of the most virtuous local and traditional building traditions, and in line with a universal approach and state-of-the-art technological innovation. It will promote a Franco-Egyptian hub for higher education and become a cultural showcase for the partnership between the two countries.
Its design meets UFE’s vision of being economically and socially responsible. Incorporating many smart approaches, the campus will be environmentally friendly in accordance with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change by 2050.
The campus is designed by a French renowned architect agency Jakob+MacFarlane and a leading architect firm in Egypt, RMC.
The project is co-financed by the Agence Française de Développement and the Egyptian government.
